Eisteddfod 2023

Llandovery hosted the Eisteddfod in 2023.

 

This was be the eighth time that Carmarthenshire have hosted the Urdd Eisteddfod although this was the first time that the Eisteddfod is visiting Llandovery. The Eisteddfod first visited Carmarthenshire in 1935 when the Eisteddfod was held in Carmarthen and the most recent visits include Eisteddfod Sir Gar in 2007 and Eisteddfod Cwm Gwendraeth in 1989.

The National Eisteddfod is the largest cultural festival in Europe, held in a different part of Wales every year.  
 

Aled Rees, the headteacher of Teilo Sant School in Llandeilo was elected as the Chairperson of the Executive Group. Aled Rees is a past winner of the John and Ceridwen Hughes Award for his exceptional contribution to youth work in Wales. Peter Harries, Lowri Jones and Sioned Page Jones were elected as Deputy Chairpersons of the Executive Group. Gethin Thomas was announced as the Treasurer and Beti Wyn James as the Secretary of the Executive Group.

Various subject committees have already been established and will continue to work through 2019 to choose the competition pieces for the Eisteddfod. In addition, numerous appeal committees will be established to start the fundraising campaign and raise awareness that the Urdd Eisteddfod is coming to Carmarthenshire.
