Llandovery

Llandovery is a traditional rural Welsh market town, easily reached via the A40 and the Heart of Wales railway. Known for its rich history as a droving town, it features a charming market square with Georgian buildings and a variety of shops, cafés, and accommodation—all on flat, accessible terrain.

 

Countryside

Situated on the western edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, Llandovery is a gateway to outdoor activities like walking, cycling, fishing, and canoeing. Surrounded by hills, woodlands, and waterfalls, it offers breathtaking scenery and access to areas like Pumpsaint, Rhandirmwyn and Llyn Brianne.

 

Community

The town hosts events like the Carnival, Sheep Festival, and Motorbike Weekend. It has excellent amenities including a doctor’s surgery, hospital, schools, a leisure centre, pool, library, parks, and a strong local rugby presence. The Drovers and Llandovery College has produced many Welsh rugby players. The town also has super fast broadband, 4G.

History

Founded at a key crossing of the River Tywi, Llandovery has Roman and Norman roots, with a visible castle ruin. It grew as a market town during the wool trade and droving era, and retains much of its historic charm today.
