Birdspotting
The area around Llandovery is a fantastic place for wildlife and for birds in particular. Kites are a daily sight over the town itself and the surrounding countryside provides a range of habitats and species.

The Carmarthenshire Bird Club
The Carmarthenshire Bird Club exists to promote the observation, study, recording and protection of the wild birds and wild-bird populations of Carmarthenshire. The club organises meetings for its members which include field trips and talks on wildlife topics and club meetings are an excellent opportunity to meet other birders and to visit places of ornithological interest in enjoyable company. We are an active club with over 140 members and new members are most welcome.
Membership is available to anyone with an interest in the wildlife of Carmarthenshire. Birds do not have to be your only, or even your principal, interest. Some of our members are enthusiastic about dragonflies, butterflies, wild plants or general wildlife. And, of course, you do not have to live in Carmarthenshire to be a member.
Membership costs £10 a year and joint membership (for two people living at the same address) costs £15 a year. Family membership is also available. Members receive a free copy of the annual County Bird Report and the club newsletter which is issued every three months.
Red Kite Feeding Station
Opened in 2002 by a local partnership with support from the Brecon Beacons National Park, the Welsh Red Kite Trust and various other notable wildlife organisations and individuals. Visitors may sit in the specially built hide only feet away from diving birds and observe them competing naturally for the food provided by the feeding centre at regular times throughout the year.
